Lord Langford 1848-1919

The owner of Summerhill House that Sisi rented in Ireland, Lord Langford joined her hunting.  Hercules Edward Rowley, 4th Baron Langford was educated at Eton School and joined the Grenadier Guards rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel.    In 1884 Langford was elected a representative peer for Ireland.  He later took up appointments at Government House in Dublin as State Steward and then Comptroller of the Household to the Lord Lieutenant.  He was twice married.

Langford’s sister-in-law was the daughter of Sir Vincent Corbet who rode with Sisi when she hunted in Cheshire.
